I'm having a week. We've been having problems with the server at Zumobi, so I've been fielding numerous support emails and keeping up on the forum. I just got back from Vegas where I was at Mix08 all last week, so I'm behind on everything. This weekend was FULL of roller derby activities, so had no time to catch up at home. BUT the WORSE thing of all..... I COMPLETELY FORGOT MY MOTHER'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
I'm the worst daughter ever and I feel horrible about it because this is the first time it's happened - well at least in my adult years. Technically her birthday is today, but I only just realized that when I saw a birthday reminder in my hotmail account (yes, I'm behind on that too).
Anyway, I let her know how lame I am so now I need some great ideas for a killer belated birthday gift from a daughter who...well is doing the best she can to keep up with life.
Mom - I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH and hope you have a WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY!!!! You deserve it for sure.
It's been over a year since I've been to Vegas. I'm not complaining because usually I'm there for a trade show and Vegas is not THAT fun when you're there for business. However, I'm getting ready to head over there (down there?) for Mix08 next week and I'm kind of excited. It will be the first trade show with Zumobi and it's actually a pretty cool crowd. But I'll also get to see some old friends in the media that I haven't seen in a long time. I will likely be hanging out at Microsoft's device bar there where Zumobi will be installed on the phones. So if you want to see what Zumobi is like, please stop by. Of course, better yet - if you have a Windows Mobile device you can get it now via your mobile browser at http://get.zumobi.com.
If you download it though, I expect you to come to the forums and let me know what you think. Well, okay, it's more of a "please" come to the forum and let me know.
And before I forget.....Rat City Rollergirls is gearing up for the Fourth Season and tickets are on sale now (go to the site for the link to buy). This is definitely going to be an interesting year, so if you are in the Seattle area and you haven't heard of RCRG, you have now and you have to go at least once. I should also mentioned that our venue capacity has decreased this year, so tickets will likely sell out. As they say, the early bird gets the worm.
Apparently today is the day that I was finally brought home to my new adopted parents. I'm not sure if I would consider it a homecoming, an anniversary or...well a birthday but it always gives me a weird feeling. Not bad weird, just different. I was born in September, so about 5 months later I found a home. While I always knew I was adopted, I always thought it was right at birth so I was a bit surprised when I found out not that long ago that it had taken a little while for me to get to my adopted parents.
I'm not sure really what that means, but it does bring a lot of questions to mind especially as I deal with yet another person leaving me for some unknown reasons - or at least unknown by me. Mostly I try not to deal with thinking about these things. Mostly.
On a more sound and discernibly positive note, I'm wondering if I could "technically" claim this as my true birthday and get a little bit of time back. :) Okay, it would only be five months but there's also many benefits given I would also have a different year designator. It was definitely worth the thought.
I suppose you could say Zumobi also had a birthday this week too as they turned version 1.0. There's a ton of improvements, from smaller footprint to dramatic performance improvements. But don't believe me - you can download it at our WAP site on your mobile device at http://get.zumobi.com. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Oh and I forgot to add my favorite new site....
The end of last year came in a bit rough, which is a huge understatement, I suppose. Of course, with that it only gives me hope for this year being awesome. Between you and me, it really can't get any worse. :) While some of my changes are just too much to share publicly right now, I do want to say that I'm embarking on a new employment adventure! I've been at the agency for close to 9 years and I can't even believe how fast it's gone by but I think I've been ready to hang up my agency hat for a while. It happens and while I thought I would likely be here for a much longer time (always so much I want to do) this has been a difficult year personally and professionally for me and well timing is everything isn't it. I've accepted a position at Zumobi and am ecstatic about becoming their new Community Marketing Manager. I have really loved working in the mobile industry and this just seems like a very natural fit for me.
What's Zumobi you may ask? It's a mobile application that enables you to access and share content in a unqiue, intuitive way. There's a lot of possibilities, and they've just launched their beta in Mid-December.
I start there on January 14th and although I'll be really sad to leave the colleagues and friends I've built at the many years at Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, I'm excited by new challenges and am ready to kick butt. It will be a fabulous New Year - especially since I'll have everything to do with making sure that's the case!
I also promise to post a lot more - again a personal goal of mine, but I have a feeling it won't be that hard.
