Okay, I'm not at all against the Wii, but like many people I've frankly gave up hope in getting one and don't really want to hunt anymore. This little piece of news from CrunchGear (thanks, Matt!) however has definitely made me think it's about freaking time. Apparently, there's a Wii-mote type of device being made for the XBox 360 (which I DO own). Imagine, a whole new realm of games for the 360 and I don't have to buy a new platform. I will definitely be keeping my eye on this one. At first Nintendo's distribution difficulties were just what happens with new consoles "hot" on the market. However, it went far beyond any kind of marketing ploy and is now just a bit in the pathetic realm. I also haven't heard any efforts on Nintendo's part to rectify the situation beyond saying expect the same delays/challenges this Christmas. Um, when DID this console come out?
I hate to say it but I think Nintendo deserves this and I would love to see this 360-mote come out and even one for the PS3. If that happens, then I won't give the Wii another thought.
I was reading on Joystiq today about Netflix may be looking for a gaming console to "hook up" with to start delivering movies to. This got me thinking, as a gamer myself and a movie buff it would actually be a perfect scenario to be able to grab movies from Netflix for delivery to my 360. Despite playing games a lot, I've never actually spent a lot of time on Xbox live. There's a lot of reasons why I think, part of it is because I don't want to pay any subscription fees and part of it is because I haven't really been up there.
When I was at the World Cyber Games, the GamerChix did tell me that a yearly subscription was actually pretty cheap. However, if i never go there why would I even want that? I don't even have cable - hard to justify paying someone to bring me TV that I can essentially get for free, plus I don't want to feel like I have to watch TV. If I was paying for it, I would feel compelled to watch more TV. But all said and done, the idea of getting my Netflix subs via Xbox makes me think a little differently about that. From the Joystiq article, it looks like it may take quite a while to download though so not sure if that would make it worth it. If there was a way to do a pay per view kind of streaming experience, that would be cool. I'm not sure if that's even possible though.
Regardless, I'll be watching what happens. I suppose if they go the PS3 route, than the deals off for me since I don't own one. But I'm thinking Xbox Live has a much larger subscription base, so would make more business sense for Netflix. Well that and one of their top execs are now a member of Microsoft's Board.
I have a 3 month free trial subscription coupon for Xbox Live, so perhaps I'll jump on there tonight and explore since I think some new experiences with my 360 are in order! Speaking of experiences, did anyone watch last nights CSI New York episode with Second Life? It was actually pretty cool.
Happy Thursday y'all!
Is everyone loving the new season of Heroes? Is this the first time you’re seeing it or are you just as hooked as I am? I noticed last night that Kristen Bell, aka Veronica Mars and the newest “electrifying” character on Heroes - Elle, was talking on the product placed Sprint phone last night. I honestly couldn’t tell what phone, mostly because I think it was a basic clamshell variety. What was bad about this product placement, however, was that Elle was looking for Peter Petrelli in IRELAND!
Isn’t this show focused at the geeks? I’m sure this isn’t the only anomaly on a show like this. I know there have been numerous on Star Trek throughout it’s illustrious running.
It’s probably a safe assumption that Sprint likely knew nothing about where the product placement was, and just as unlikely that the director would never think that a Sprint phone would never work in Ireland. At least they didn’t include an iPhone, I suppose.
Speaking of Heroes, Amazon.com is celebrating a new Hi-Def 101 store and you can enter to win a cool promotional Heroes package that will be given to three lucky winners a day from October 15 – November 15th. The Hi-Def store is a new resource that will be updated frequently to help clear up confusion with High Definition.
The package includes:
· Exclusive Heroes silkscreened Xbox 360 Premium consoles
· HD-DVD Accessory for Xbox 360
· Heroes Season One on HD-DVD
There is no purchase required but only one entry per person as long as they have a valid Amazon account (no purchase required for that either) but as I’ve found it’s a great way to put my wish list up there so my family knows exactly what I want for birthdays or Christmas.
To enter the Heroes Giveaway: www.amazon.com/HeroesXbox360Giveaway And good luck!
I added the Gaping Void widget because i've been a huge fan of him for SO long and it's fun to have his work on your own personal blog, I think. He's very close to Microsoft, especially considering his Blue Monster work, but I think it's because he has close friendships with some Microsofties and he's always had a strong opinion about the tech industry, so good or bad he's been talking about them for years. I've never personally met Hugh, but I would love the opportunity for sure. I remember 'running' into his site back in the day when I did PR for Microsoft's developer division. These days I don't get a chance to keep up on his cartoons and views, so again a perfect solution!
On another note, AT&T announced early this morning availability for the Tilt. Although the Touch, Shift and Advantage have all got considerable buzz online, I think the Tilt really represents a device that HTC is well known for. It's a workhorse among smartphones, realy speedy especially considering 3G connectivity and the innovative flip up screen is well, frankly, just cool. If I wasn't with T-Mobile and have MyFaves, I would totally be using that device as my primary! The device will be available in retails stores tomorrow, and with a two-year contract and mail in rebate, it will run you as low as $299.99. Judie over at Gear Diary has posted her unboxing and will do some subsequent review but to say the least she's very excited about this device. Speaking of Gear Diary, to celebrate their first year anniversary on the web, they are giving away an unlocked TyTN II - which is basically the European version of the Tilt. Go over there now and wish them congrats on their first year and enter to win that TyTN II!
All I can say is October is going to be a crazy busy month for me! Oh yeah, I should say if anyone is going to be at the World Cyber Games in Seattle this weekend, well specifically Saturday. I'll be there hanging out with Xbox, who are having the Rat City Rollergirls there as a promotional appearance! Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be skating or allowed to skate, but drop by and look for Darth Skater!
