I'm slowly starting to discover all the wonderful things in life, especially as you slowly come to the realization that you've been held back a bit. I don't blame that on my husband, it takes two for that, although I will say I did my best to at least have a social calendar. For a majority of the time, I think he just liked to sit around the house and I encouraged that. After months of being in that separated stage and more than a month of him completely gone, I realize that I was never quite satisfied with that and I never operated like that before. I'm realizing now that I actually do like to do a lot of things and am energized when I have things to attend.
Before, it was always an excuse to go to a rollergirl event and I enjoyed them a lot, to an extent I did have to go so my husband usually tagged along or just stayed at home. That was the extent of it. We didn't go to see movies, although I did agree with him on this point that neither of us liked going to the movie theater.
I've actually discovered a very wonderful though, or rather it just smacked me in the face that I am master of my own weekends. I can go see a band, which was always one of my favorite things. I can go to a new club, or go out to eat and my favorite place, or go to a rollergirl event and not have to worry about ensuring the hubby has a good time.
There's a few shows coming up that I discovered on a fluke and am TOTALLY overjoyed that I'm able to go! They fall on a weekend and not during a bout and I'm not traveling for work. It's perfect! And as I recently did at the Drive By Truckers show, I'm planning on going by myself. So if you're a big fan of Ministry or Mindless Self Indulgence and live in Seattle, they have some upcoming shows at the Showbox! Drop me a line if you're gonna be there, otherwise I'll be enjoying the show and my newfound freedom.
Yeah, I sometimes feel like I'm living in the dark ages but I still buy CDs. I have so many different places that I play music, not too mention that my husband, who is likely more the norm in music listening as far as mass consumer audience goes, doesn't own an MP3 player. In addition to that the whole music industry is in such an odd state of limbo as to what their future looks like and I go to a lot of live local shows to watch no name bands all adds up to the fact why I still buy the physical music.
As a caveat, I did buy my husband an MP3 player several years ago. I couldn't decide when I was buying mine whether I wanted to get a Creative Labs Zen, or iRivers latest beast - I think it was their first color screen one. So I bought them both, one for me and one for my husband. Earlier this year I got a Zune because after over 2 years it was time to retire my Creative Zen, however the iRiver crapped out after about 6 months and I went through the painstaking process of sending it back for repairs - it was pretty gruelling. And I have YET to see that music player back. Oh well, I sent emails and "tried" to call but you know how that goes. I finally just wrote it off as a lost cause and opted to never buy an iRiver again - their loss really because lots of friends ask me about options outside of the iPod realm because they know I do not like the iPod.
Anyway, does anyone else still buy CDs? Or are you all digital all the time? There's something comforting to know that if something happens, it may take some time but I'll still have all my music....
