I added the Gaping Void widget because i've been a huge fan of him for SO long and it's fun to have his work on your own personal blog, I think. He's very close to Microsoft, especially considering his Blue Monster work, but I think it's because he has close friendships with some Microsofties and he's always had a strong opinion about the tech industry, so good or bad he's been talking about them for years. I've never personally met Hugh, but I would love the opportunity for sure. I remember 'running' into his site back in the day when I did PR for Microsoft's developer division. These days I don't get a chance to keep up on his cartoons and views, so again a perfect solution!
On another note, AT&T announced early this morning availability for the Tilt. Although the Touch, Shift and Advantage have all got considerable buzz online, I think the Tilt really represents a device that HTC is well known for. It's a workhorse among smartphones, realy speedy especially considering 3G connectivity and the innovative flip up screen is well, frankly, just cool. If I wasn't with T-Mobile and have MyFaves, I would totally be using that device as my primary! The device will be available in retails stores tomorrow, and with a two-year contract and mail in rebate, it will run you as low as $299.99. Judie over at Gear Diary has posted her unboxing and will do some subsequent review but to say the least she's very excited about this device. Speaking of Gear Diary, to celebrate their first year anniversary on the web, they are giving away an unlocked TyTN II - which is basically the European version of the Tilt. Go over there now and wish them congrats on their first year and enter to win that TyTN II!
All I can say is October is going to be a crazy busy month for me! Oh yeah, I should say if anyone is going to be at the World Cyber Games in Seattle this weekend, well specifically Saturday. I'll be there hanging out with Xbox, who are having the Rat City Rollergirls there as a promotional appearance! Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be skating or allowed to skate, but drop by and look for Darth Skater!
HTC's European region announced their end of year lineup of devices which includes the new Touch Dual, the HTC Shift, HTC S730 and the HTC P6500. It's a nice lineup, I haven't personally seen any of these devices but if I get my grubby hands on one I'll for sure let you know. Okay, technically I've seen the Shift but I haven't used it. To be clear, US availablility has NOT been announced yet. Sorry to be a buzzkill but people keep asking and I've got nothing to report.
However, for the European devices, for me the Touch Dual is probably one of the more exciting devices. Of course, I expect there's a device for anyone in this lineup. It's got 3G/HSDPA connectivity and a processor that's twice the size of the original Touch, so likely to be pretty speedy. One interesting thing to note is the device doesn't have WiFi built in. I had to think about that one for a little bit because well, everyone has WiFi in their smartphones these days, right? (And yes, even RIM now!) The device is pretty speedy, and given most people have data service with their smartphone, it does seem like overkill. That's strictly my opnion, of course!
I have never used my WiFi really and I'm not sure if I would find a reason to. I suppose if my cellular service is down I would want to have WiFi as a backup? However, if my cellular service is down, there's like a good reason for it and getting access to my email is probably not a high priority. I imagine that there are just as many smartphone users that wouldn't utilize WiFi as there are that do, so it's about choice and if you are that much of a power user, the Touch Dual is likely not the device for you. I have NO idea if this will make it across the pond, but I'm hoping it does.
The P6500 looks to be a real workhorse and fully suited for the enterprise market, especially since it has fingerprint ID sensors AND the ability to remotely wipe the data if its been lost or stolen. And the S730 is the enhanced version of the S710, which I have actually used and really liked it.
And yes, the European market is getting the Shift in November for around EUR 1199. The big news for this device is the innovative SnapVUE application. Basically it gives you instant access to emails, calendar, SMS messages and contacts with fully booting up the device, helping conserve power and extend the battery life. I really can't wait for this device for a multitude of reasons but MOSTLY because I hate taking my laptop with me on business travel. If I could just load up the Shift and take that I would be a happy camper.
My goal is to use it as my primary device at the upcoming CES show. From a PR perspective, having a laptop is necessary at major trade shows, you have to take a lot of notes, have access to as much info as possible and just a smartphone is likely not going to work. I'm thinking the Shift is going to serve all of my needs AND save me a ton of space in my suitcase!
If you have any questions regarding the HTC European announcements drop me a line at you know where. Or just check out some of the links above. Oh yeah, and I've got LOTS of goodies coming this week so stay tuned!!!!
HTC today released the TyTN II across Europe as many of you probably seen. The TyTN II will be available with leading operators across Europe, as well as direct under the HTC brand. The device features global high speed HSDPA connectivity, built-in GPS for personal navigation and has the innovative adjustable screen angle.

I have a pretty busy job, which is actually an understatement but I won't want to sound whiny. It's stressful but I think that mostly comes from myself and my own work ethic. My goal with this blog is to try and write something a few times every week - if not more. I'm not sure I'll ever have the time for daily entries but it would be nice. I saw Judie of Gear Diary posted a recent question on her Facebook site asking " What are your best tools or suggestions to stop procrastinations and stay motivated." I have to admit that I found the question pretty intimidating itself because sometimes I feel likely I'm barely getting by, let alone ever getting ahead. The humongous stack of publications sitting at my desk waiting to be read, haunts me every day when I walk in. I'm tempted to take one or two home every day but it's just as hectic at home that and I try really hard not to mix work with home.
I'm more interested to hear about how other people stay ahead of the curve, so some of the suggestions have been very interesting. However, I think I need another step, perhaps some type of intervention so I stop taking on too much and.....
Of course, it doesn't help at ALL when you've got laundry and cleaning you have to do at the house but the video game you just got has consumed your ENTIRE Sunday! My husband was actually happy that I took the time to be a complete vegetable since he rarely sees me shut down. In case you're wondering - BIOSHOCK RULES!
Oh and in case you have actually read all the way down to the end, not only am I surprised, I also wanted to let you know that HTC Europe will be making an announcement tomorrow. Not sure of the specific timing, but I imagine I'll be asleep when the release drops. I'll follow up tomorrow with a link.
I've been thinking about this for a while and have decided that this blog could serve as being very beneficial for work. I'm actuallly not sure why I didn't think of it before but I'm planning on using this to keep my contacts on what's going on with clients.
I plan on talking about the industry, posting press releases and adding any pertinent information. It will help cut down on multiple emails, thereby helping me be more efficient in managing everything and help you get the information as soon as possible.
What I won't do is confirm any rumors or leak any news. I am not an official spokesperson for the clients I work for and my views ONLY represent my opinion - NOT those of my client or employer, Waggener Edstrom.
So who do I work for? Well the main one would be HTC, www.htc.com, but specifically the Americas region of HTC. I also work with Microsoft's SPOT team and have a minor role with Amazon.com. For information about our Consumer team at Waggener Edstrom, including a list of clients you can check here.
What I hope to get out of this? Get to know everyone a little better and have more time to pariticipate in the conversation rather than stuck in the email quicksand.
