So I'm trying out this new Facebook application called BlogIt. Apparently it's supposed to update my blog as well. Technically this is a test but I'm discovering a lot of very useful applications like this on Facebook. It just takes a while to find them and most of the time I'm discovering them via someone else. In this case, via a Twitter post from a Bay Area Derby Girl who was referencing AnilDash....and I found it there.
Discoverability is a pretty big issue in my opinion for many applications, brands, information and general cool stuff that's floating around the net. It's one thing to do a google search for something you are specifically looking for but what about those things that you just don't know exist? I'm using Twitter a lot more because I found out they have a Facebook application but not sure if I would have looked for it. I saw someone else using it.
It's one of the things I think about a lot when I'm looking around online. Getting the right people to your site is not a science, nor is it an art form. It's a bit of both mixed in with being as connected as much as you can. Turning over every rock as they say. How do you discover things online? There's definitely a point where it gets to be a bit too much at time. My dad, who is 70 and retired, is just now discovering the web. I have to talk to him a little bit more about what he looks for and how he finds things. He's not at ALL the type that I would think to be "surfing" the web but there's a community out there for him. I wonder if they know?
UPDATE: It worked really nicely! I think I'm going to love this application! Go here if you want to check it out: http://www.typepad.com/features/blogit.html
I'm a bit shocked to say that I've never watched this entire movie. Sure I've seen bits and pieces but never end to end - hmm, really should add it to my Netflix. However, I'm a BIG fan of the title. For some reason I think it just conveys a certain amount of ominous feeling, and also something critical and serious. The title also makes me think about my current job hunt. I'm not sure if it's entirely ominous because I'm sure I'll find something that is perfect. But in the general sense there is a certain amount of ominous feelings you get when you have to deal with dramatic and sudden change. I'm trying to keep that ominous feelings at bay and focus on the task at hand. My main concern right now is the insurance benefits. I need to have insurance to skate, which is right now one of the main things going for me. Well at least that's how I feel.
Things always get better and spring is here - at least per the calendar.
Okay, I'm not at all against the Wii, but like many people I've frankly gave up hope in getting one and don't really want to hunt anymore. This little piece of news from CrunchGear (thanks, Matt!) however has definitely made me think it's about freaking time. Apparently, there's a Wii-mote type of device being made for the XBox 360 (which I DO own). Imagine, a whole new realm of games for the 360 and I don't have to buy a new platform. I will definitely be keeping my eye on this one. At first Nintendo's distribution difficulties were just what happens with new consoles "hot" on the market. However, it went far beyond any kind of marketing ploy and is now just a bit in the pathetic realm. I also haven't heard any efforts on Nintendo's part to rectify the situation beyond saying expect the same delays/challenges this Christmas. Um, when DID this console come out?
I hate to say it but I think Nintendo deserves this and I would love to see this 360-mote come out and even one for the PS3. If that happens, then I won't give the Wii another thought.
Remember a few posts away (Vote and Win) where NWSource was hosting a poll for the fan favorite team of the Rat City Rollergirls? Well, the results are in as the Throttle Rockets take the honor! Geoff did a nice write up that was very fitting to our team. I remember the very first year when we came out of the gate like a jet-fuel packed machine taking no prisoners. Um, the fans kinda thought we were mean. We hit hard and we play focused and hard. Well we got a rep, and coupled with the black and silver we always felt like the Oakland Raiders of the league. Seriously, people BOOED us! To be really honest with you, we were a bit crushed and instead of crying in our beer we decided we would play it up a bit. There wasn't anything we could do.
I think that moniker has been sloughed off though, especially as we do throw the best team nights (sorry GD, DLF and SW but we owe it all to the Funhouse). And many fans, regardless of the teams they support can be seen there (um as well as skaters on the other teams). People started to see us in a different light and have kinda grown to like us. It's not all about the partying though. I think we have a great solid heart and a good solid team that truly cherishes teamwork. I love the spacey ladies of the Throttle Rockets - and I think you will too!
Our next team night - because I KNOW you want to go - will be on Saturday, April 26th - be there or be square.
My suspicions were confirmed yesterday, the EngadgetTMobile site was an April Fool's Prank - well done. You had a lot of people going, although I won't name any names I will admit you had me when it first started to unroll on Monday.
Back to my topic, I've been cruising DIYLife lately because it really kicks ass and because it's a Tile in our Zumobi Gallery so I can read it via my mobile phone during down times. It always gives me great creative ideas and I have always enjoyed bringing those ideas to life - although time doesn't always permit. One of the few things I miss about my failed relationship is that we used to come up with some of the most wacky and/or creative things to add to our household. I ran across this project on Instructables today that was right up that alley of our collective thinking. We had entire nights when we would sit on the back deck and throw back a few beers and just think of fun/crazy things..... oh well. Anyway, this project is a Bratz Knife Block and it's simply perfect. Mostly because I've been looking for JUST the perfect block for my kitchen and with a little modification, I think I could make this project my own!
So I challenge everyone to release their inner creative beast. Fight the mundane and the boring routines and get out there and CREATE!
Sometimes I feel like this should be some type of "special" day for me, since I tend to do so many foolish things. I feel like the patron saint of today. It could be that I'm getting older, or perhaps gas prices have really got people down but I'm not seeing anything stand out as legendary in the April Fool's Hall of Fame. There wasn't anything really at Fark and The Onion made me yawn. I would say that Engadget's magenta-themed site refresh had a bit of classic in it, but mostly because I'm not sure if it's meant to be an April Fool's joke. Love those guys over there and I also think releasing it on today is very fitting, especially if it's not a joke.
C'mon what's going on? Have we forgot to laugh at ourselves and most importantly others? I think Mother Nature has been making a complete fool of us recently, so I'll have to give her the legendary award if I see nothing else. I mean, c'mon - yesterday it snowed, than rained, than hailed with heavy thunder and lightening - that's just cruel especially after this weekend's snowfall.
I think for my April Fool's day, I'm going to yet again attempt to contact the fool that left me so I can finally get the info I need to file my taxes. YEAH :( I was actually able to establish contact yesterday, which is the biggest step so far in several weeks. I'm not going to hold my breath and sadly, I would rather just file my taxes and not deal with maximizing my deductions....if I wasn't so damn cheap.
I need help. Please let me know if you see any good April Fool's jokes. Laughter, they say is the best medicine, unless you've read that shirt "Without Laughter, you can't have Manslaughter." HA
As I was lamenting over all the random shit on my Facebook page - seriously, can we stop it - I noticed an ad for yet another social networking site called Boomj. They market it as a place for the over 30 crowd. Of course I had to wander over and take a look. My first thought was the obvious. Do I REALLY need another social networking site? REALLY? I think I'm going to sign up. The worst thing that will happen is I hate it and never go back or delete my account. My next question though before I do sign up, is do I really want to grow up? REALLY?
Hmm, maybe I'll take a few days and think about it. Anyone else joined and have opinions on it? I'll have to see if there are any reviews or news about it. Oh and apparently there's this new term called "Generation Jones" that refers to those in between the Xers and the boomers. I hate all these generation terms and I think technically I'm an Xer although I've never identified with them that much. And I'm not really a boomer. Does that make me a Joneser..... :)
Oh and remind me to mention how wonderful I am at inserting my foot in my mouth.... not now but some day in the distant future. I've really got to stop doing stuff like that. My word of the week: AWKWARD.
Daydreams of Friday run through my head.
Okay, you have until Wednesday at Noon Pacific to vote for your favorite Rat City Rollergirls Team. The obvious choice is the Throttle Rockets.... seriously. Regardless of WHO you vote for NWSource is giving away free season passes to a random winner. What could you be waiting for, it only takes a second!

I check an inbox at work that gets mostly spam. As I was checking it and noticing the "clever" titles to phish you out, I started to wonder who these clever wordsmithers were. I mean, c'mon - don't you want to "Melt away pounds with it" or be "On top all night." I thought the "Smart in bed games" was particularly intriguing, as well as the email that could "Take her to seven heaven." I'm not a deeply religious person but I always thought there was only the one heaven. Where is this number seven heaven?
Then it got me thinking.....what kind of subject line would I want to be? So here's a few that I thought would be good;
She'll keep you in stitches (this is to demonstrate my refined sense of humor....or perhaps the fact that I play roller derby.)
Woman in need of good man (I'm not even going to qualify that one)
Okay, I completely lost my train of thought hours ago when I started this post. But I want some other subject lines. Another new favorite that I JUST ran across: "Does it cause any side effects?"
Who do you think chooses these subject lines?
